Jungle in YZD
A Community-Engaged Paint-by-Numbers Mural with NYA
Jungle in YZD is a community-engaged mural created in collaboration with North York Arts as part of YZD's summer programming (Downsview Airport Lands). Designed as a paint-by-numbers mural, the project invited community members of all ages to take part in the painting process, transforming the site into a shared, hands-on art experience.
Inspired by tropical flora and bold, joyful colour palettes, I brought warmth, play, and movement to the YZD summer landscape. The mural features oversized flowers, lush leaves, and vibrant shapes that were easy to engage with while still feeling expressive and dynamic. Alongside the guided paint-by-numbers sections, an open painting area was added to allow participants to experiment and leave their own mark freely. The final mural reflects collective creativity and celebrates accessibility, connection, and community through public art.
