Art + Identity: Why I Paint What I Paint πŸŒΊπŸ’›

Each stroke of my brush, whether it's an orchid, a monstera leaf, or a burst of vibrant tropical colour, is not just a creation but a sharing of my unique story. It's a narrative that's not always loud or linear but deeply rooted. My art resides at the intersections of memory and place, of personal identity and public space.

I was raised in BogotΓ‘, a city overflowing with colour. The houses, the flowers, the vibrancy, everything was vivid and alive. But as a child, I didn't realize how exceptional that was. I truly assumed everyone had walls bursting with colour and gardens blooming in every direction. It wasn't until I moved to Canada that I truly got the deep connection between colour and being Colombian. It is a part of our happiness, our resilience, and our identity. πŸ’›πŸ’™β€οΈ

I grew up between worlds, with the sounds and smells of Colombia pulsing in my bones as I learned to navigate life in Canada. So when I reach for colour, I go for what feels like home. Bright magentas, jungle greens, golden yellows. They're more than paint. They're memories made visible. πŸƒπŸŒˆ The Cattleya orchid reminds me of my abuela's garden. Hibiscus petals feel like joy in motion. Even my lettering work carries that rhythm. Curved lines, organic motion, full of energy.

While there is a prevailing notion that art should be neutral or universal, for me, it has always been a profoundly personal journey. It's a means of reclaiming space, of declaring, "This is who I am," and inviting others to see themselves mirrored in my work. Whether it's a community mural, a workshop piece, or a branding wall for a client, I approach it with the same perspective: a bold colour, layered meaning, and profound respect for the place.

My art isn't just about decoration. It's about making identity visible. It's a celebration of heritage, everyday beauty, and the stories that are worth sharing.

If you're a business or brand that wants to reflect something tangible in your space culture, care, or colour, like the vibrant energy of a local cafΓ© or the rich history of a community center, I'd love to help you bring it to life.
